“Guardians Of The Galaxy” 17 Minute Sneak Peek Review

As you may know, I am extremely excited for Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” coming up in just a few weeks. The trailers have been absolutely fantastic and it just looked like such a fun and unique movie from the studio. Not to mention that it’s also the movie that directly leads us into “Avengers: Age Of Ultron.” So yesterday, I attended a sneak peek event where I saw 17 minutes of the film in IMAX 3D. I was super excited to get more of a glimpse at what I will be seeing come July 31. After having seen the footage, words cannot describe how much higher my anticipation is for this film. It looks insanely good! Just a fair warning that this post will contain spoilers on what I saw, so be warned before continuing to read.

The sequence that I saw was the entire prison breakout scene that has been hyped up from the trailers. It begins with the rundown of the Guardians themselves and the scene of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) being attacked for trying to get back his Sony Walkman that we’ve seen from the teaser trailer. It’s really funny and brilliantly sucked me into this universe. Also a little tidbit, they mention that Gamora (Zoe Saldana) is the adopted daughter of Thanos (Josh Brolin) so that was a really awesome easter egg to get in advance!

After this, we’re thrown right into the prison along with the Guardians where they begin to make their stamp with the inmates that they aren’t to be messed with. Rocket (Bradley Cooper) is the one who monologues as Groot (Vin Diesel) shows off his particular set of skills in this incredibly funny bit. This directly leads into Rocket, Star-Lord, and Gamora come up with a plan on how to break out while Groot is shown in the background just doing his own thing which was incredibly hilarious.

This sparks the prison break where you get to see how all the Guardians function and it’s just remarkable. Instantly, I fell in love with all of the characters. Pratt’s Star-Lord has pitch perfect comedic timing and banter with Cooper’s Rocket. Speaking of which, if you didn’t think Rocket and Groot were gonna be scene stealers in the movie based on the trailers, this scene proves that they will be the most hyped up characters in the movie. They’re badass, hilarious, and visually stunning. Cooper’s voice perfectly suits Rocket while Diesel does a great job at conveying the emotion of his character through the tone in his voice despite saying, “I Am Groot,” over and over again. Saldana shows off how badass her character can be as well, which kind of reminded me of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow from the other Marvel films. Even Dave Bautista works with his action scenes and comedic timing as Drax the Destroyer.

We also got to see a sizzle reel of other footage that was actually released online shortly afterward. The clip we saw had a few extra tidbits (we saw a split second glimpse of Thanos sitting in his throne from behind!), but it’s basically the same footage. Just further showcases how much fun and action packed this movie’s going to be. I really can’t wait to see the whole thing.

Another side note I’d like to mention is that the IMAX 3D experience was fantastic. It felt immersive and expansive, which just added to the fun. Looking forward to seeing how the whole film pans out in the format.

Did you guys get a chance to see the 17 minutes of footage from “Guardians Of The Galaxy?” What did you think of it? What do you think of the sizzle reel if you didn’t get to see the other footage? Comment below with your thoughts.

“Guardians Of The Galaxy” opens in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on August 1, 2014.

Thank you guys so much for reading and, as always, “Follow the Screen, Scene X Scene!”
