Sigourney Weaver Will Be In “Avatar” Sequels . . . How?!?

Hey, remember “Avatar?” Y’know, the highest grossing movie of all-time? Well, it’s been nearly five years and director James Cameron is still trying to get started with work on the sequels. It’s basically just been all talk and no real solid news. But now, we have our first piece of information in months . . . and it’s really weird.

Cameron recently spoke out about if Sigourney Weaver would return to the cast in the three planned sequels and he said the following. Beware of spoilers of the first film, but I’m sure you’ve seen “Avatar” by now.

Sigourney and I have a long creative history, dating back to 1985 when we made “Aliens.” We’re good friends who’ve always worked well together, so it just feels right that she’s coming back for the “Avatar” sequels. Her character of Grace Augustine, as fans know, died in the first movie, so she’s playing a different and in many ways more challenging character in the upcoming films.

. . . Wait, what?!? Sigourney Weaver is gonna be playing a different character? Really?

I mean, I respect Cameron to death. I love every film of his that I’ve seen, including “Avatar.” That being said, this is a really stupid idea. Cameron can get any actress he wants to play a role in his film and he chooses Weaver despite her already being a part of this universe. It just feels out of place and ridiculous to me.

Even with that negative comment out of the way, I will say that stuff like this has been done before without bothering me too much. Two recent examples include Jonah Hill playing two separate characters in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Get Him to the Greek,” and martial artist Yayan Ruhian did the same in “The Raid: Redemption” and “The Raid 2.” So who knows. Maybe Weaver was just the right actress for the part and it won’t bother me by the time I see the “Avatar” sequels.

What do you guys think? Do you find this decision weird or are you happy to see Sigourney Weaver reunite with James Cameron? Make sure to comment down below.

“Avatar 2” is expected to be released in December 2016, “Avatar 3” is expected to be released in December 2017, and “Avatar 4” is expected to be released in December 2018.

Thank you guys so much for reading and, as always, “Follow the Screen, Scene X Scene!”
